Frequently asked questions
Yes. We have a 3 dog maximum as a general rule due to the size of the cabin but should you have more, please contact us to discuss further as we may be able to accommodate them.
Absolutely, but we do ask that you use the blankets/ throws provided or bring your own bedding.
We have done everything we can to ensure the outside area fencing is as safe as possible. We have 6ft fencing around the whole site. It is however, owners responsibility to check the fencing upon arrival. The areas facing the road or our property will be closed board fencing so there is limited visibility.
For the tiny escapees we have also added an additional layer of chicken wire style fencing to the bottom of all perimeters to help minimise the risk of dogs getting out.
While we intend Red Dog Retreat to mainly serve reactive dog owners, we are very happy to welcome dogs with no reactivity. We feel so lucky to live here and we know you will love it too.
Whilst we have done everything we can to minimise the risk of as many triggers as possible, we do live in a rural farming community. If you have a dog that is especially sensitive to noise, you are likely to hear the noise of tractors, some passing traffic, livestock and the daily barking of working dogs. Very rarely RAF jets do fly over. There is also the occasional hunt in the area.
The fencing is all 6ft, however as the cabin is raised you will be able to see the top of vehicles passing and livestock in the field across the road from there. You may also see the top of peoples heads as they walk past (although it is very rare someone does walk past!)
Red Dog Retreat is just next door to where we live so you are likely to hear us going about our daily life, however you will not see us.
We have put a lot of thought, time and effort into fencing and screening to ensure that you and your dogs feel totally private and secluded. There are several areas that will be double fenced to provide a 'buffer,' between your boundary and our property boundary.
Should you want any further information then please feel free to contact us.

We know the stress that owning a reactive dog can bring you, so we believe you need at least a week here to fully decompress, unwind and relax. Bookings are generally available for a minimum of one week. Across the year we may make a couple of shorter breaks available.
We will share our knowledge of walks which might suit you and your reactive dogs best, avoiding potential triggers. We also provide several OS maps of the local area as well as recommendations from previous guests.
Absolutely, all breeds are welcome here. All we ask is that owners follow all the correct guidance to safeguard themselves and their dogs. We will also ask to be sent the certificate of exemption and copy of their third party liability insurance for each bully to come and stay in advance of their holiday.
Absolutely, there will be some crates available to use in the Cow Shed. There are also additional dog resources such as bowls, toys, beds and lick mats. We just ask you wipe them down before you leave. Alternatively you are welcome to bring your own.
The cabin will be strictly non- smoking inside but there will be plenty of external areas to smoke in should you wish.
Absolutely. Whilst we do not provide any specific resources for children, they are more than welcome to come and enjoy the lovely space, alongside their four legged family members.
No. As we are on a well fed water system, water is incredibly precious, especially during the drier months. With that in mind, we decided against a washing machine and hot tub to prioritise water for the shower, dishwasher and drinking. We do also ask guests to be mindful of their water usage during their stay.
